I’ve truly never felt more Canadian than when standing knee deep in snow on a frozen lake, surrounded by pine trees, capturing Alexis and Aaron’s magical Muskoka engagement photos.
Most of us southern Ontarians think of Muskoka in the summer, and all the boating, water skiing, camping (and mosquitos) that accompany a weekend up north. But Muskoka in the winter is absolutely breathtaking. It’s quiet, serene, and a rather perfect location for some epic engagement photography.
When this lovely couple decided to rent a beautiful AirBnB at the beginning of February, and asked me to join them with my camera in hand for the day, I got pretty excited.
Obviously, we wanted to make use of both the beautiful cabin and the surrounding scenery. We wanted to make it cozy and woodsy, but not go overboard on the whole “Canadian” theme. Just because you’re up north doesn’t mean it has to be all plaid and winter boots.
So I asked Alexis how she felt about wearing a black evening gown to contrast with the white snow. To my great excitement she was totally into it! Aaron followed suit with a dapper jacket.
What we could never have planned for was the warm day. Almost 10 degrees celsius in Muskoka in FEBRUARY is basically unheard of. It’s that weather that created the magical mist. It really was something extra special.
Lots more engagement photos here.
